Walmart Marketplace Calculator: Referral Fees & Net Proceeds
Walmart Marketplace charges a category-based referral fee of 6–15% per sale with no monthly subscription or listing fees. On a $40 product in the standard 15% category, the referral fee is $6.00. After deducting fulfillment ($5.50) and product cost ($15), your net proceeds are $13.50 — a 33.75% margin. This calculator helps you estimate referral fees and net proceeds before listing a product on Walmart Marketplace.

Walmart Marketplace Fee Structure
Walmart Marketplace has the simplest fee structure among major marketplaces:
Referral Fee Only — 6–15% of the total sale price (item + shipping), depending on category.
No listing fee. No monthly subscription. No per-transaction fixed fee. The referral fee is the only per-sale cost Walmart charges.
This makes Walmart particularly attractive for:
- Sellers with few SKUs (no subscription cost to amortize)
- High-ticket items in low-fee categories (electronics at 8%)
- Sellers who self-fulfill (no WFS fees)
Referral Fee Categories
| Category | Referral Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard (most categories) | 15% | Home, garden, toys, apparel |
| Electronics | 8% | Lower rate for high-ticket items |
| Jewelry | 10% | Mid-range for premium items |
| Media (books, DVDs) | 15% | Same as standard |
| Health & Beauty | 15% | Standard rate |
| Automotive | 12% | Slightly reduced |
| Garden & Patio | 15% | Standard rate |
| Food & Beverage | 8% | Lower rate for consumables |
Minimum referral fee: Walmart does not publish a universal minimum referral fee (unlike Amazon's $0.30). Check the Walmart Seller Center for category-specific minimums.

Worked Examples
Example 1: Home & Garden Product ($35, self-fulfilled)
| Component | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Selling Price | $35.00 | |
| Referral Fee (15%) | $35 × 15% | $5.25 |
| Fulfillment (self-ship) | $4.00 | |
| Product Cost | $12.00 | |
| Net Proceeds | $35 − $5.25 − $4 − $12 | $13.75 |
| Margin | $13.75 ÷ $35 | 39.3% |
Example 2: Electronics Accessory ($80, WFS fulfilled)
| Component | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Selling Price | $80.00 | |
| Referral Fee (8%) | $80 × 8% | $6.40 |
| WFS Fulfillment | $6.85 | |
| Product Cost | $35.00 | |
| Net Proceeds | $80 − $6.40 − $6.85 − $35 | $31.75 |
| Margin | $31.75 ÷ $80 | 39.7%** |
The lower 8% electronics rate makes high-ticket items particularly profitable on Walmart compared to Amazon's 15% referral for the same category.
Example 3: Apparel ($25, WFS fulfilled)
| Component | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Selling Price | $25.00 | |
| Referral Fee (15%) | $25 × 15% | $3.75 |
| WFS Fulfillment | $5.22 | |
| Product Cost | $10.00 | |
| Net Proceeds | $25 − $3.75 − $5.22 − $10 | $6.03 |
| Margin | $6.03 ÷ $25 | 24.1% |
Low-priced apparel with WFS fulfillment has tight margins. Self-fulfilling this item (if shipping costs $3 instead of $5.22) would improve margin to 33%.
Walmart vs Amazon vs eBay: Fee Comparison
| Fee Component | Walmart | Amazon (Pro) | eBay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly subscription | $0 | $39.99 | $0 |

| Referral/FVF rate | 6–15% | 8–15% | 10–13.25% |
| Per-transaction fee | $0 | $0 | $0.30 (optional) |
| Fulfillment service | WFS ($3.45–$8.27) | FBA ($3.22–$12+) | None |
For 100 orders/month at $30 average:

| Walmart (15%, self-fulfill) | $450 (referral only) | 15.0% |
| Amazon (15%, FBA) | $450 + $39.99 + ~$550 FBA = $1,040 | 34.7% |
| eBay (13.25%) | $397.50 + $35 (listings) = $432.50 | 14.4% |
Walmart's no-subscription model saves $480/year vs. Amazon for low-volume sellers.
Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS)
WFS is Walmart's equivalent of Amazon FBA. Walmart stores your inventory, picks, packs, and ships orders, and handles customer service and returns.
| WFS Cost Component | Rate |
|---|---|
| Inbound shipping | $0.80–$1.20/lb |
| Storage (per cu ft/month) | $0.75 (standard) |
| Pick & pack (small) | $3.45 |
| Pick & pack (medium) | $4.85 |
| Pick & pack (large) | $6.27 |
| Pick & pack (extra large) | $8.27 |
WFS advantages: Buy Box priority, 2-day delivery tag, free returns handling. WFS disadvantages: Storage fees, inbound shipping costs, less control over packaging.
When to use WFS: High-volume items where the Buy Box advantage offsets fulfillment costs. When to self-fulfill: Low-volume items, oversized products, or when you already have efficient shipping.
